General Leonard retired from active duty on 1 July 2012 culminating a 33 year distinguished career.  He graduated from the ROTC program at Emporia State University. He also holds a Master Degree Oklahoma City University. He is a graduate of the United States Army War College.General Leonard served in a variety of key assignments throughout his career. His key command assignments Commanding General, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Commanding General 1^st Sustainment Command (Theater), United States Army Central Command, Commanding General, 1^st Corps Support Command, Deputy Commander, United States Army Field Support Command with duty as Commanding General, Army Materiel Command Forward-Southwest Asia/C-4, Coalition Forces Land Component Command, Commander, Special Operations Support Command (Airborne). His key staff assignments include Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Operations, United States Army Materiel Command, C-4, Combined Force Land Component Command and Commander of Army Materiel Command, Southwest Asia. General Leonard is authorized to wear the Distinguished Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Other honors include being awarded the NDIA Logistician emeritus, the General Brehon B. Somervell Medal of Excellence. General Leonard is a Distinguished Alumni of Emporia State University and was inducted as a Distinguished Member of the Quartermaster Corps.
