Colonel Gary L. Harris was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Quartermaster Corps, in 1972 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Program at Murray State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. His military education includes the Naval War College, Army Command General Staff College (CGSC) and the Quartermaster Advanced and Basic Courses. Over his 29 year career, Colonel Harris’ significant command and staff positions include: Chief of Staff, Defense Distribution Center, New Cumberland, Pennsylvania; Commander, Defense Logistics Agency, Europe; Commander, Division Support Command (DISCOM), 2nd Infantry Division, Korea; Chief, Readiness and Operations, Material & Readiness Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Pentagon; Commander, 46th Forward Support Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York and Commander, E Company and S2/S3, 426th Supply & Service Battalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His notable staff assignments include three tours at the Quartermaster Center & School, Fort Lee, Virginia serving as Director, Logistics Training Department; Deputy Director Airborne Department and Chief, Supply Prepotency Office. Colonel Harris awards and decorations include: Defense Superior Service Medal (2nd award), the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (5th award), the Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), the Parachutist Badge, the Parachute Rigger Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge. Colonel Harris also is a member of The Distinguished Order of Saint Martin, The Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe and a Distinguished Member of the Quartermaster Regiment.
