Command Sergeant Major Ryles’ key assignments include: Command Sergeant Major, 101^st Division Support Command, Fort Campbell; Command Sergeant Major, 8^th Battalion, 101^st Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell; Command Sergeant Major, 240^th Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Lee; First Sergeant, Headquarters Company 17^th Combat Aviation Group, Yongsan, Korea; and First Sergeant, Headquarters Company, United States Army Garrison, Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. Command Sergeant Major Ryles was a key player in leading the 101^st Airborne Division into Saudi Arabia and Iraq in one of the division’s largest Air Assault missions in history.  Because of his leadership, he became the Command Sergeant Major of the Division’s Forward Operating Base, and he was the acting Division Command Sergeant Major for a large portion during the Gulf War.
